Description
Finca Muxbal is located on a plateau 1560 meters above the foot of the Tacaná volcano. The estate is 236 hectares, of which 60% is planted with Catuai and Mondo Novo. The remaining 40% is an ecological reserve that protects rainforest and springs. The rich volcanic soil, positive environmental practices, and shade coverage provide the ideal microclimate for coffee. When the Rodriguez family purchased the Muxbal Estate in 1959, there was no road to the farm and the family had to hike up the mountain on foot to access the three simple buildings on site. After years of revitalizing, Enrique Rodríguez developed a patronage with the local government to pave a road to Unión Juárez completed in 1979. Their modern facilities include a kitchen, tortilladora, dining room, and housing for all employees of the farm. Additionally, the farm offers schooling for the community’s children during the high season.
This fully-washed coffee is a blend of Catuai and Mondo Novo. It is harvested between November-March at 1500 masl and dried on raised beds after processing.
