Description

Following the Gunung Agung Volcano eruption in 1963, the Balinese government distributed coffee seedlings to local farmers. The coffee growing area in Bali is now estimated at 7,500 hectares, much of it in the Kintamani highlands atop a large volcanic plateau. The use of pesticides is prohibited on Bali. Varietals include a high percentage of Bourbon and Typica, along with shade trees such as erythrina, albizia, tangerine and orange. Similar to a farming cooperative, Subak Abian is a traditional farming organization in Bali -13 of which are currently growing and processing coffee. The “SA” oversee both agricultural technology and religious activities.

This coffee is harvested from May until July at 1300 masl, naturally processed, and dried on patios.
